2014 KTM 250 SX-F

The 250 SX-F has been a constant of the MX2 World Championships, bringing the World Champion's crown home five times in a row with Jeffery Herlings taking the 2012 title. Now, the machine's success enters a new era with KTM's first AMA Supercross Championship courtesy of Ken Roczen in the highly contested 250 SX West series. Championship performance proven by two of the world's greatest - the KTM 250 SX-F is set to continue its dominant performance at the highest level.

Featres May Include:
  • The airbox design offers maximum protection of the air filter against soiling while ensuring maximum airflow for top performance. The Twin Air filter can be changed without tools in seconds, a standard for KTM.

  • The KTM 250 SX-F all but guarantees top positions in highly competitive motocross competition as proven by a multitude of World Championships and KTM's first Supercross Championship. For 2014, KTM Engineers have implanted a lighter, 5-speed gear box into the powerplant to reduce weight and fine-tune MX performance. The combination of a compact engine layout and unrivaled power will make the 250 SX-F an undisputed winner.

  • The forged box-type piston stands out with its extra rigid structure, combined with minimum weight. Thanks to the low oscillating masses, the engine displays extremely lively characterisitics.

  • The highly compact CSS (Coil Spring Steel) cltuch uses a wear-free steel basket and eight clutch plates which are extremely heat resistant due to their steel carrier discs. The Brembo hydraulic system with its new master cylinder provides easy and precise modulation.

  • In 2014, the 250 SX-F engine is distinguished by a new gear box offering easy and precise shifting. As the number of gears has been reduced from 6 to 5, the new transmission is 250g lighter than its predecessor.

  • In order to balance the mass-forces, the 250 SX-F engine uses a multifunctional counter balance shaft which also drives the water pump and timing chain. The engine receives a new water pump cover with a new gasket in order to optimize the seal.

  • The centerpiece of the compact DOHC engine is its cutting-edge cylinder head with two overhead camshafts and DLC-coated followers - a design that allows to break the engine speed "sound barrier" of 14,000 rpm. Combined with extra lightweight titanium valves (intake 32.5mm, exhaust 26.5mm), flow optimized ports ensure a maximized flow rate for top performance.

  • The 250 SX-F's crankshaft employs a plain big end bearing. Two force-fitted bearing shells run directly on the crank pin. This design is a major prerequisite for the extremely high engine speed levels and unrivaled maximum power of the 250cc engine. It enhances the engine's durability, allowing a longer interval between crankshaft service.

  • In combination with the revolutionary injector position as developed by KTM, the Keihin Engine Management System, with electronic fuel injection and 44mm throttle body provides the engine with a spontaneous response and maximum performance. For 2014, the wiring harness of the 250 SX-F has been further simplified and even higher quality wires and connectors are used. In order to protect them against pressure washers, many connectors are now enclosed in new rubber boots. With an optional map-select switch from the KTM PowerParts program, EMS continues to allow selecting different engine characteristics. In addition, the optional User-Setting Tool allows to readout engine data with a laptop and change the ignition and injection mappings with a few mouse clicks.
