Your dirt bike is built for adventure. But those adventures can get messy! It’s important to clean your off-road motorcycle regularly to ensure it continues to run smoothly. Read on for some simple cleaning tips, and call CalMoto with any questions or if you want to check out some bikes for sale. We have locations in Mountain View, and Livermore, California, and we proudly serve San Francisco and San Jose!

Clean and Remove Fragile Parts

When cleaning your dirt bike, you want to make sure you don’t damage any of the components. This means you should remove fragile parts before using a pressure washer. These parts include:

  • The seat.
  • Air filter.
  • Skid plate.
  • Pipe guard.
  • Bark busters.

You can remove any other components that could be damaged by a high-pressure spray or cleaning detergent. Before you start cleaning the off-road motorcycle, cover the airbox, exhaust, and muffler.

Chip Away at the Top Layer

Now it’s time to start getting rid of the top layers of mud. Use a hose or pressure washer to rinse off the grime. We suggest putting your dirt bike on its side so you can easily get the underside and continue to move around it.

Time to Scrub

Once the top layer is removed, it’s time to start scrubbing the remaining mud. This is most likely in those hard to reach places and stubborn spots. You should use a gentle detergent or bike wash to clean the motorcycle. You’ll probably want some soft rags too and maybe even small brushes to get into the smaller grooves. If scrubbing isn’t working, that’s okay. Apply a little bit more water and let the dirt soak it up before you start to clean it off.

Hose Down One More Time

Once all of the mud is gone from your dirt bike, you’ll want to rinse it off one more time. This will ensure that you get rid of all of the soap and dirty water. You’ll also be able to see if you missed any spots.

Towel Off

As you wrap up the cleaning process, you’ll want to dry off the dirt bike to avoid getting any streaky spots. Use a soft cloth, preferably a microfiber towel, to dry it. Areas that are harder to reach can be dried using an air compressor or a hair dryer.

The final touches include lubricating the moving parts, cleaning your gear, and putting back all the parts you removed.

We hope these simple tips help you clean your dirt bike after every fun, mud-filled adventure!
