Motorcycle Upgrades

For some, buying a motorcycle is just the first step. While there are those that are perfectly content with how the bike rolls out of the factory, there are a lot of reasons to modify your bike to better suit your style and preferred performance level. Some people know exactly what they want, but others need a little more guidance as far as what’s going to make them happy. Here at CalMoto, we’re committed to giving you the best ride possible, so we’ve outlined some adjustments you can make to your motorcycle to make every ride more exciting.

If you need a part or you’d like a technician to help you, contact one of our dealerships in Mountain View and Livermore, California. We also serve San Francisco, San Jose, and Tracy.

Suspension

One of the more seemingly complex but actually very simple adjustments you can make is to change the suspension. Some people like a smoother ride while others prefer a stiffer ride. There are many technical reasons for adjusting your suspension, and you may find that you need to experiment a little before knowing where you’d like your suspension to be. Because of this, upgrading to more easily adjustable suspension might be one of the most useful upgrades you can make.

If you don’t feel comfortable adjusting your own suspension (after all, you did just spend a lot of money on it so we’d understand if you’re worried about breaking something) then bring it in to a professional. Let them know what kind of performance you prefer and they’ll take that information and translate into the right kinds of adjustments. This will not only ensure you get the ride you’re looking for, but that your bike will come out relatively intact as well.

Wheels

You can also take a look at your wheels. There are practical reasons for choosing a certain type of tire, as your tires play an instrumental role in the kind of traction you get. They’ll also matter when it comes to how often you ride. A thin tire isn’t exactly well-suited for long trips, at least not over and over again. They also don’t provide the right kind of traction to keep you grounded on windy roads. Then again, lighter wheels will give you better fuel efficiency and may be the better choice depending on your preferred suspension choice.

However, you can also get tires and wheels for a completely different purpose: style. Chromed out wheels, white-wall tires and fat back wheels all make for great aesthetic choices. Whether you like them individually or you’re looking for a specific kind of style, like a chopper or cafe racer, changing out your wheels can kick your ride into a new style realm.

LED Lights

Some motorcycles now come standard with LED lights, but there are still many models that don’t. This is especially true if you’re getting a pre-owned bike. Some of the old halogen bikes are effective, but LED lights give you brighter bulbs that use less power. This is important when you’re a smaller vehicle riding around at night. Being seen is one of the first lines of defense to avoiding an accident. The brighter you are, the easier it is to see you.

LED lights also come in a variety of colors and can be sold in strips. These can then be mounted on the side of your bike to give your ride a nice glow as your cruising down the street. They’re easy to install and, when done correctly, won’t damage your paint, so opting for styling choices that also make you safer is a no-brainer for many motorcycle owners.

We’ve covered some of the more common and simpler ways to upgrade your motorcycle, but there are plenty of other ways you can customize your ride. Just stop by CalMoto in Mountain View and Livermore, California and we’ll gladly talk to you about some of your other options. We’ll also help you find the perfect motorcycle if you’re still looking. We welcome all riders from San Francisco, San Jose, and Tracy.
